Spanish Curriculum


  SIXTH GRADE
Students learn prayers such as “The Sign Of The Cross”, “Our Father”, (Padre Nuestro), common everyday salutations, greetings and responses. They also study vocabulary, colors and numbers and animals. They learn to identify common classroom items, definite and indefinite articles, singular and plural words, phrases, and adjectives. They practice common questions and answers, as well as commands and responses. Curriculum time is also given to learning the history and heritage of Spanish culture.

Student learning takes place using songs, games, and movies.  Students are tested, quizzed and graded on class participation and homework. 
     
         
  SEVENTH GRADE
Students learn prayers such as “The Sign of the Cross” , “Hail Mary”, (Ave María) and “Our Father”, (Padre Nuestro).  They practice greetings, expressions of courtesy, and conversations (questions and answers).  In addition, the curriculum includes vocabulary and writing, subject pronouns, adjectives, the verbs to go (Ir) and to like (Gustar), days of the week, weather expressions and holidays, numbers zero to one hundred.   Student learns about Spanish speaking countries and the history and heritage of Spanish culture.

Student learning takes place using games, videos, Students are tested, quizzed and graded on class participation and homework.

EIGHTH GRADE
Students learn prayers such as “The Sign Of The Cross”, “Hail Mary”, “ Our Father”, “Sacred Heart” prayer. They also learn the Pledge of Allegiance (Juramento a la Bandera).  Eighth grade students are exposed to advanced vocabulary and the rules that apply, regular verbs (Ar, Er, Ir), and expressions with the verbs To have,To go,To like. Writing and conversational Spanish are emphasized along with pronunciation at this level. Topics such as time, the family, numbers, sentences, commands and dictation,questions and answers, weather expressions, seasons, days of the week and holidays are also part of this curriculum. In addition to the above Spanish culture, history, and heritage are covered.
