| LANGUAGE ARTS Students will apply phonics and decoding skills to identify unknown words. Students will identify and expand first grade oral and written vocabulary and sight words. They will be able to read at or above grade level. Students will apply comprehension and critical thinking skills. They will respond to literature through writing and oral discussions. Students will appreciate different cultures through literature and read for personal enjoyment. The students will use listening and study skills to gain an understanding of books and reference materials. They will recognize and write simple sentences and paragraphs using capitalization and punctuation. Students will identify and use the correct parts of speech in oral and written communication. Students will correctly read and spell assigned words and use them in their daily writing. |
SPELLING and HANDWRITING During the second quarter students will be tested on a weekly spelling list. Students will correctly print upper and lower case letters along with numbers. |

| RELIGION Students will recognize Jesus as their best friend and speak to him frequently each day. Students will show respect for themselves and every person as loved by God. They will listen attentively to God’s word proclaimed in the Bible and through the people who share His love. Students will participate in weekly Mass. Students will learn the desire to be kind, fair, honest, and responsible. They will recite prayers daily. |
MATH Students will recognize and graph numbers 1-100. Students will add and subtract single digit numbers. The students will identify, count, and add money. Students will explore time to the hour and half hour. The students will recite the days of the week and the months of the year. The students will measure using rulers, thermometers, and measuring cups. |

| SCIENCE Students will identify basic parts and uses of plants, collect seeds and record how they grow. Students will identify the seasons and different kinds of weather. Students will recognize the planets, moon, and stars. Students will discuss foods and the food pyramid, along with eating healthy. The students will demonstrate the ability to recognize and utilize the five senses. |
SOCIAL STUDIES Students will describe places found in a neighborhood community. The students will describe family roles and how families are alike and different. Students will identify the differences between maps and globes. Students will participate in good citizenship and show respect. |
