Learning Center

Miss Julie Spier and Mrs. Jean Sinovic are full-time teachers in the learning center at Christ, Prince of Peace School. Miss Spier is the reading resource specialist for grades K-5, and Mrs. Sinovic is the learning consultant for K-4. They coordinate with classroom teachers to meet the needs of children with learning differences.

Miss Spier works with struggling readers. In addition to receiving reading instruction in the classroom, these children may see Miss Spier for small group instruction in the learning center.

Based on teacher referrals, Mrs. Sinovic works with struggling students, trying various methods to ensure success and providing feedback to teachers and parents, as needed. Many students who have a formal, current diagnosis (e.g. ADHD, learning disability, or language impairment) and a learning profile containing individual educational accommodations are allowed to take tests in the learning center and are taught testing strategies.

The duties of the learning center teachers are varied and include preparation of Special School District packets, attending Services Plan meetings, developing education plans, serving as a resource to teachers, parents, and students, and advocating for students with learning differences. Each year they coordinate speech and language screenings at the school. The learning center teachers attend workshops and seminars and share this information with the faculty.

Miss Spier and Mrs. Sinovic work as a team, and their goal is to help students with learning differences reach their full potential. They can be contacted at 636-394-6840 (Miss Spier - ext. 131 and Mrs. Sinovic - ext. 129) to answer any questions or to provide additional information about the Christ, Prince of Peace special needs program.
